During the Chinese New Year celebration, families come together on New Year Eve to prepare dumplings, which represent wealth, prosperity and blessing for the coming year. If you love steamed dumplings, try making Watcharee’s dumpling creation using massaman curry sauce, ground turkey and purple cabbage. It’s healthy and quick to make and a fun family activity during the lunar new year, or any time of year.
Steamed Turkey Dumplings with Thai Massaman Curry Sauce
1 cup ground turkey (99% fat free)
½ cup shredded purple cabbage
¼ cup WATCHAREE’S Thai Massaman curry sauce
1 cup water to seal the dumplings
1 pack of circle wonton wrappers
In a mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, shredded cabbage and WATCHAREE’S Thai Massaman Curry sauce.
Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the turkey mixture into the center of each wonton wrapper.
Using your index finger to dip in water, lightly wet around the edges of the dumpling, carefully folding both sides together to seal. Crimp the edges of each and repeat the process.
Set aside on a plate covered with a damp towel to prevent dumplings from drying out.
Steam dumplings in a stack steamer pot, Chinese bamboo steamer or in a plate set over a rack in a deep pan if you don’t have a steamer handy in your kitchen
Bring water to a boil and steam dumplings for 10-12 minutes until they are cooked through depending on the size of the dumplings. Check and refill water during the steaming process.
- Add your favorite veggies such as carrots or mushroom to the dumplings.
- Substitute ground turkey with crumbled extra firm tofu for vegans. Our Thai massaman curry sauce is plant-based.
- Dip with soy sauce mixed with sesame oil and sesame seeds if you like. Enjoy!
